Game of the Night

Boston Bruins vs. Montreal Canadiens @ Bell Centre
1-5 Final

Woah.  Haven't been here in AGES!  But vacation was... good to say the least.

So for hockey fans out there that really care, tonight was the 100th birthday of le Club de hockey!  Montreal Canadiens!  100 years and 15 Stanely Cups later, this is where we stand.

On this grand day, les Canadiens raise two more jerseys to the rafters; Elmer Lach's #16 and Émile Bouchard's #3.  And many more veterans were present to celebrate the greatest club in the league's birthday.  To commemorate the presen and non-present veterans, Carey Price wore a new mask that bore (I think) 3 former Canadiens goaltenders.  The mask will be donated (probably auctioned) after tonight.

You get what this means to the club when Jacques Martin puts his most aggressive line on the ice (Georges Laraque, Max Lapierre, and Marc-Andre Bergeron).

Price made his biggest save of the evening against Marco Sturm around 7:30 into the opening period.  On the Montreal PP, Sturm gets the SH-breakaway!  But was stopped (big time) by Carey.  If Carey hadn't of made that save, this game would not have gone as well as it did.  Then a minute later (and 4 seconds after the PP), Jaroslav Spacek's banks in his one-timer from Scott Gomez!  Max Pacioretty provided the great screen that blocked most of Tim Thomas's vision, that puck was bound to go in.

Second period, Montreal made the best PK of the night!  At around 7 minutes in, two Habs are sent to the sin-bin and put us on the 5-on-3.  But holy crap!  Stopped every one of their shots and the ice just totally tilted for the Habs!  Then once that was done, at around the 8th, Mike Cammalleri scores on the next shift!  Bad turn-over by the Bruins lead to Tomas Plekanec zipping down the ice, shooting, then tip-in by Cammy!

5 minutes later, Mike gets his second of the night!  An ugly one, but it counts.  Timmy Thomas screws up and only has himself to blame for this one.  Maybe Matt Hunwick too since he didn't clear (or try to) the zone.

Over 8 minutes later and a Glen Metropolit goal, Cammy gets his third of the night to receive his second hat trick of the season!  Thomas didn't have much of a chance (unless he went for those miracle saves) on this one.  Very quick shot from Cammy from a Scotty G pass.

After letting 5 goals in, Thomas got replaced by Tuukka Rask in the third.  And that was when Boston ended Carey's shut-out.  Josh Gorges tried to clear, but ended up giving the puck to Matt Hunwick.  Hunwick made the shot and Vladimir Sobotka got the gentle tip to put his team up on the board.

3 stars:
(1) Michael Cammalleri
(2) Carey Price (37 saves)
(3) Glen Metropolit
