Game of the Night (Pt. I)

Ottawa Senators vs. Montreal Canadiens @ Bell Centre
3-2 Final

Trying to go 3-0 in their record against the Sens, the Habs looked to remain top of the Northeast Divison and T-2nd in the Eastern Conference.  The Sens look to continue their hot-streak after wins against the New York Islanders and the Toronto Maple Leafs.  But who knows; maybe the smarts of the Ph.D line (Benoit Pouliot, Mathieu Darche, and Jeff Halpern) can stop them.

After some great hockey played between the two, the scoring was opened with just a little over 2 minutes left in the first by the Senators.  Peter Regin kep the puck alive after a shot being blocked by Dustin Boyd.  Passing the puck to Erik Karlsson, the young defenceman shoots into traffic, and with a Sens sweater and two Habs sweaters in front of him, Carey Price had no chance at seeing the puck and the first goal went slyly into the back of his net.  Alex Kovalev got his blade on the rubber and tipped the puck past Price's right.

Nearly half the game gone, le bleu-blanc-et-rouge wake up.  Another goal from the Senators had to occur, but the Canadiens finally beat Brian Elliott!  Jaroslav Spacek, recently back from injury, scored on his slapper against the Ottawa net.

After situating themselves 2-behind, Brian Gionta came streaking down the ice after being sent off to the races by Spacek and with a quick snap at the net, the captain puts his team behind the Sens by one.

It wasn't that Price was bad tonight; it was just that the Senators were better.  Price made some really great saves and tried to keep his team in it.  But Elliott and the rest of the Sens were better and able to stop the Habs' shots from getting through to their net.  And it didn't help that Ottawa won a lot of the face-offs, got penalised less, and just got more shots and more shots through to the net.
