So the NHL got a little bit busier than usual.  Suspensions, injuries, and a couple of trades light up the NHL map.
  • Injury update: Calgary Flames lose Alex Tanguay to a day-to-day neck strain.  
    • The Calgary Flames also lose Adam Pardy to an upper-body injury that will keep him out of the line-up indefinitely.  Flames
    • Daniel Alfredsson of the Ottawa Senators is out indefinitely with a lower-back injury.  Senators 
    • Having to be scratched from the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs moments before puck-drop, the New York Islanders' Kevin Poulin will undergo a season-ending knee surgery to fix a dislocated left knee cap.
    • The New York Islanders also lose Jeremy Colliton due to a rib injury.  TSN
    • It is confirmed that the Pittsburgh Penguins' Evgeni Malkin will receive season-ending surgery on his knee to repair his ACL and MCL in his knee.  The surgery will keep the Penguins star out for an expected six months.  Penguins
    • Last but not least, the Vancouver Canucks will be without Keith Ballard for 3-4 weeks due to a right leg injury he suffered in Monday's game against the Senators.  Canucks (Scroll down a little.)
    • Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks will not start Wednesday's game against the Anaheim Ducks due to missing yesterday's practice session because of a flu.  For precautionary reasons, Luongo will play back-up to Cory Schneider.
    • The New York Rangers will be without Chris Drury for an estimated six weeks due to left knee injury.  Rangers
  • Suspension news: the New Jersey Devils have lost Anton Volchenkov for three games.  Volchenkov was suspended by the NHL's disciplinary board for his elbow to the head of Carolina Hurricanes' Zach Boychuk on Tuesday.  Devils
    • Matt Cooke of the Pittsburgh Penguins have also been suspended four games for his hit from behind on Columbus Blue Jackets' Fedor Tyutin on Tuesday night.  Pittsburgh paper
  • Trade talk: like many suspected, Francois Beauchemin has been traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Joffrey Lupul, Jake Gardinier, and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2013 draft.  TSNMaple LeafsDucks 
    • The New York Islanders have acquired Al Montoya from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft.  Islanders, Coyotes
    • The Chicago Blackhawks traded Jack Skille, Hugh Jessiman, and David Pacan away to the Florida Panthers.  The 2010 Stanley Cup champions acquire Michael Frolik  and Alexeander Salak in exchange.  Panthers, Blackhawks
